Can I get FastADSL?
To start with, to get FastADSL you need a standard Telecom phone connection from a JetStream
enabled exchange. The exchange needs to be within 3.5 kilometres of your site and the cabling
must be capable of carrying the service. Not all exchanges will be JetStream capable immediately.
Telecom is progressively rolling out JetStream to exchanges around the country.

What is FastADSL?
FastADSL utilises your existing copper phoneline, and supercharges it to deliver outstanding
download performance using Telecom's Jetstream service.
Jetstream is Telcom's name for the ADSL network - a high speed line technology that enables data
to be transferred over existing copper telephone lines at the same time as a voice call but using a
higher frequency.
How can FastADSL benefit you?

making you more efficient

you can talk on the phone and use the internet at the same time - it's like having a second

How fast is FastADSL?
FastADSL is an asynchronous technology - meaning the speed is not the same in both directions.
The raw connection speed is between 1.5-6 Mbit/s for downloads and around 800Kbit/s uploads.
Your actual download speeds vary based on a number of factors. The quality of phonelines and the
distance of your house from the exchange can affect performance. Telecom's benchmark is 2Mbit/s
- and there's no charge for the installation if they can't meet this and you choose to reject the
service.
Also - the internet is only as fast as the slowest link. So if you're connecting to a busy site in the
US, you may find things are a little slower. In general though, all FastADSL users have experienced
good speed improvements - and it sure beats downloading at 56k!
Who does FastADSL suit?
Anyone who wants speedy internet access! Jetstream's baseline performance benchmark is 2Mb
downstream and 250kb upstream - making it considerably faster than conventional 56k modems.
Because Jetstream is an always-on service, it also suits people who need, or want, full-time internet
access. This can be a home user who wants avoid the delay of 'dialling up' to their ISP or a
corporate user who wants to run multiple computers who need instant access to the internet.
- What is the Cost ?
Jetstream is made up of two components - your connection and the service.
You're currently paying around $40 month for your phoneline rental. Instead of getting an second
phone line, and paying around $40 extra for only 56k access - Telecom will Jetstream-enable your
current phone line for as little as $49 per month.
They'll install a new jackpoint which lets you plug your computer and phone in at the same time.
You'll also need an ADSL modem - which we recommend you rent from Telecom at a cost of
- $30 / month.and an Ethernet card (available for approx. $30 to $50 )
- This service is supplied by a Jetstream-capable ISP such as TiTAN. Telecom connects your
Jetstream line through to us, and we provide your internet access and support for the service.

with Telecom to resolve any problems with their network or your phone line.

How to get FastADSL
Simply visit our website (www.titan.co.nz) and click on the TiTAN FastADSL promotion and fill in
the form. If you're exchange is compatible with TiTAN FastADSL - we'll contact you and then get
Telecom to install the connection into your home or Business.

Installation
Getting FastADSL is easy. The entire installation process is taken care of by Telecom. The existing
copper wire cabling to your site is used, so there is no additional cabling work required. Telecom
will install an extra jack point for the ADSL modem and some internal wiring
Once you have applied for FastADSL service from your TiTAN, the order is passed through to
Telecom to provision the JetStream connection that powers FastADSL. You will be contacted by
Telecom to arrange for an accredited Telecom installer to call.
The installer will confirm that your site and equipment is compatible and if everything else checks
out, they will install JetStream and ensure it is in full working order before leaving.
Before the installer arrives its important that you have done the following:
- Made sure that the Telecom account holder or their representative is on site when the
installer visits, and they have access (passwords) to the computer system.
- Backed up all the files on your computer.
- Ensured that your computer's warranty will not be affected by the installation of JetStream by
an accredited Telecom installer.
- Read Telecom's Terms and Conditions available here in preparation for signing before
installation.
- Telecom will confirm the availability of JetStream and therefore FastADSL during your site
visit.
Please note that FastADSL technology is no more secure than any dedicated line access
technology, and you should ensure that you have measures in place to protect the data stored on
your PC or network.

There are some minimum specifications that your computer should meet to handle the speed and
technical aspect of TiTAN FastADSL These are listed below:

hard drive space; Ethernet card (available for approx. $30 to $50); CD-ROM drive.
