The Sound Preferences editor allows you to determine the type of sound and its attributes when the system issues an application prompt or error notification.

SOUND without any arguments or with the EDIT argument opens the Sound Preferences editor.

The FROM argument <filename> enables you to specify a file to open. This must be a file that was previously saved with the 'Save As' menu item of the Sound Preferences editor. For example, if you have previously saved a special configuration of the Sound Preferences editor to a file in the Presets drawer, you can use the FROM argument to open that file.

If the USE switch is also given, the Sound Preferences editor will not be opened, but the settings in the FROM file will be used.

If the SAVE switch is given, the Sound Preferences editor will not open, but the settings in the FROM file will be saved.

The PUBSCREEN option can be used to specify a <public screen name> where the Sound Preferences editor should open.

If CREATEICONS YES is specified, an icon will be created for the saved file, otherwise no icon will be created.

The SCREEN option can be used to force the Sound Preferences editor to open in full-screen mode.

The SHOWHINTS YES option can be used to display usage information if you position the cursor over selectable items.

The LEFT, TOP, WIDTH, and HEIGHT options can be used to customise where the Sound Preferences editor window should appear on the screen and the size of the window.

The FONTNAME and FONTSIZE options can be used to specify the font and font size to be used in the Sound Preferences editor window.

Instructions for using the Sound Preferences editor can be found here.

Example 1:

3.OS4:> SOUND will open the Sound Preferences window.

Example 2:

3.OS4:> SOUND Xyz USE will use the saved sound preferences from Xyz in SYS:Prefs/Presets.
