AmigaOS 4.0 - About OS4 - Commands

PRINTER Preferences Editor
Purpose: To specify the basic printer preferences.
Format: INPUT [<filename>] [EDIT | USE | SAVE] [PUBSCREEN <public screen name>] [UNIT] [UNITNUM <font size>] [PAGE <button file>]
Template: FROM, EDIT/S, USE/S, SAVE/S, PUBSCREEN/K, UNIT/S, UNITNUM/K/N, PAGE/K
Path: SYS:Prefs/Printer
PRINTER without any arguments or with the EDIT argument opens the Printer Preferences editor.

The FROM argument <filename> enables you to specify a file to open. This must be a file that was previously saved with the 'Save As' menu item of the Printer Preferences editor. For example, if you have previously saved a special configuration of the Printer Preferences editor to a file in the Presets drawer, you can use the FROM argument to open that file.

If the USE switch is also given, the Printer Preferences editor will not be opened, but the settings in the FROM file will be used.

If the SAVE switch is given, the Printer Preferences editor will not open, but the settings in the FROM file will be saved.

The PUBSCREEN option can be used to specify a <public screen name> where the Printer Preferences editor should open.

The UNIT option can be used to display a particular unit when the Printer Preferences editor is opened.

The UNITNUM option can be used to display a particular unit number when the Printer Preferences editor is opened.

The purpose of the PAGE option is not understood at this time.

Instructions for using the Printer Preferences editor can be found here.

Example 1:

3.OS4:> PRINTER will open the Printer Preferences window.

Example 2:

3.OS4:> PRINTER Xyz USE will not open the Printer Preferences window, but will use the saved Printer preferences from Xyz in SYS:Prefs/Presets.
