AmigaOS 4.0 - About OS4 - Commands

FORMATCDRW System Program
Purpose: To format a re-writable CD or DVD for use with the Amiga.
Template: (none)
Path: SYS:System/FormatCDRW
This facility needs the CDRW driver to be installed, and it must the have correct tooltypes specified for "Device" and "Unit". DEVICE= specifies which IDE device driver to use, so it will typically be either "a1ide.device" or "sii0680ide.device". UNIT= refers to the device number on the IDE ports. UNIT= 0 or 1 if the drive is on one of the primary ports, and UNIT= 2 or 3 if the drive is on one of the secondary ports.

FORMATCDRW formats CDRW disks using SFS. It does not use FFS format and does not format using Mt Rainier which uses the CDMRW driver. Hence any disks that are formatted using this facility can only be read on the Amiga using SFS and cannot be read on non-SFS machines including PC's and Mac's.

A word of warning however; you will lose 15-20% of the capacity of the disk using this technique.

Example 1:

3.OS4:> FORMATCDRW This will invoke the following window:
