AmigaOS 4.0 - About OS4 - Commands

DEFICONS Preferences Editor
Purpose: To manage default icons.
[PUBSCREEN <public screen name>] [DEFPATH <default icons path>]
Path: SYS:Prefs/Deficons
DEFICONS assigns default icons and default programs to files based on a set of rules, as defined in ENVARC:deficon.prefs.

DEFICONS without any arguments or with the EDIT argument opens the DefIcons preferences editor.

The FROM argument <filename>enables you to specify a file to open. This must be a file that was previously saved with the 'Save As' menu item of the DefIcons preferences editor. For example, if you have previously saved a special configuration of the DefIcons preferences editor to a file in the Presets drawer, you can use the FROM argument to open that file.

If the USE option is also given, the DefIcons preferences editor will not be opened, but the settings in the FROM file will be used.

If the SAVE option is given, the DefIcons preferences editor will not open, but the settings in the FROM file will be saved.

If CREATEICONS is specified, an icon will be created for the saved file, otherwise no icon will be created.

The PUBSCREEN option can be used to specify a <public screen name> where the DefIcons preferences editor should open.

The DEFPATH can be used to specify the location of the default icons if they are not located in ENVARC:Sys.

Instructions for using the DefIcons Preferences editor can be found here.

Example 1:

3.OS4:> DEFICONS will open the DefIcons Preferences window.

Example 2:

3.OS4:> DEFICONS Xyz USE will not open the DefIcons Preferences window, but will use the saved DefIcons preferences from Xyz in SYS:Prefs/Presets.
