The Time Preferences editor is used to set the system clock, which can either be done manually or by synchronising with a
remote time server.
Local settings
The first panel is used to configure the Local settings, for Date and Time when entering the information manually.
Year should be set for the current year
- the default year is 1978
- use the + and - key to adjust the value
- entering a value gives unpredicable results
Month should be set for the current month
- select correct month from menu
Day should be set for the current day
- select correct day by clicking on it
Hours should be set to current time
- use slider to set hours
- or enter value in box
Minutes should be set to current time
- use slider to set minutes
- or enter value in box
Confirmation window should show the
day of the week, followed by the date,
followed by the time as specified above.
SAVE causes the date and time shown
to be saved to the battery backed-up
clock and to the system clock, similar
to SETCLOCK SAVE.
USE causes the date and time shown
to be saved to the system clock only, without changing the battery backed-up clock.
CANCEL terminates the Time Preferences editor with saving any changes.
Remote settings
The second panel is used to configure the Remote settings, for Date and Time when obtaining the information remotely.
Timeserver is optional but can be used to
specify a Time server to synchronise with.
Port number should be set to appropriate
value for the Timeserver specified above.
Use the + and - key to adjust the value.
GMT offset should be set to the number of
minutes your local time is from GMT.
Use the + and - key to adjust the value.
Get time instructs the Time Preferences
Editor to obtain the current date and
time from the time server.
Confirmation window should show the
day of the week, followed by the date,
followed by the time as obtained from
the time server.
