AmigaOS 4.0 - About OS4 - Preferences

INTERNET Preferences Editor
The Internet Preferences editor enables you to change the various characteristics relating to Internet access, comprising Interfaces, Routes, Hosts, Name Resolution, Services, and Servers, each one with its own editing window accessed from the left-hand menu bar.

Servers

New, Copy, and Modify invoke the Servers Editing Window that follows, while Delete acts immediately (not an 'Are you sure?' in sight), however you can Cancel out if you make a mistake. Otherwise you must click on Save to save your changes.

Servers Editing Window

This window is invoked if you click on New, Copy, or Modify above.

Service provides a box where you can type the name of the service or you can click on a service from the list of services already defined, but you'll find it is virtually impossible to use unless you drag the window larger. The default services are listed below.

Type is a selectable value which can be 'Stream', 'Datagram', 'Sequenced Packet' or 'Raw'.

Internal should be ticked for any internal service which does not need to have a program associated with it. When a service is selected from the list, the option becomes ghosted.

Stacksize is the stack size required for the program. The default is '4000', and it can be changed using the '-' and '+' gadgets, or simply overtype the default value. Will be ghosted when Internal is ticked.

Program is the name of the program associated with the service. Will be ghosted when Internal is ticked.

Arguments may be one or more arguments that are passed to the above program at initialisation. Will be ghosted when Internal is ticked.

Active can be used to temporarily disable the service by removing the tick.

Wait for completion ???.

Use socket I/O streams ???.

You must click on Use to retain the values entered, or Cancel to lose all changes, and return to the Servers window above.
