The ECS Operating System

With the release of the ECS chipset came version 2 of the Operating System. Gone was the bright blue background contrasting with the orange and black menus, not to mention some of the garish icons. In release 2, these were replaced with varying shades of grey and pale blue, and an altogether much more professional look. The pull down menus were enhanced and you could choose between icons or text, all files or just those with icons, and the result much a much friendlier environment. The need to resort to the DOS shell was significantly reduced, and the customising options were enhanced considerably and the number of colours for the Workbench was variable up to 16 colours. The version that was eventually released was 2.04, although 2.05 was also released just for the A600 to enable the IDE disk drive facilities.
