The Amiga 1000 was the first Amiga to be produced, being introduced to the USA in October 1985 and shortly afterwards to the rest of the world. It featured a Motorola 68000 processor running at 7.14MHz clock speed, 256 Kilobytes of Random Access Memory (RAM), the Initial Chip Set (ICS), and the original Zorro slot (Zorro I) packaged in a neat, compact desktop case similar to that being used for the Commodore C128, except it offered the unique feature of a "keyboard garage" at the front of the machine, below the slot for the double-density floppy disk drive that used a proprietary disk format. The entire AmigaDOS operating system came on a single floppy disk, with the essential routines (the Kernal) being stored in upgradeable Read-Only Memory (ROM).
